Our History

When the travel industry came to a screeching halt in 2020, Kira started brainstorming for ways to continue traveling the world. As soon as countries started opening their borders, Kira called family and friends and invited everyone to join her on a European vacation. Kira Cartagena planned a thorough, in-depth 2 week get away that included a detailed itinerary. During a time when there were strict travel restrictions and many uncertainties, the vacation went off without a hitch and The Geographic Gypsy was conceived. Since then, The Geographic Gypsy has planned several domestic and international vacations, yoga retreats, family vacations, honeymoons, cruises and much more.

From month long European treks, safaris in Africa, surfing trips throughout Central America, salsa dancing in South America, koala sanctuaries in Australia and any and everything in between, The Geographic Gypsy offers our clients a unique, customized travel experience. Combined with your vision and our personal knowledge, your destination designer can create itineraries, plan excursions, book lodging, plane and train tickets, map out routes of travel and so much more. As your designer gets to know you, we like to really focus on the minute details that all come together to create the idyllic getaway.

Kira Cartagena, Founder & Destination Designer

With over 12 years working in the travel industry and having visited over 40 counties, Kira Cartagena has a passion for traveling the world. Taking her first trip out of the country at the young age of 12 years old, Kira saw how traveling can be an eye-opening, humbling experience. She has taken the time to really immerse herself into other cultures, religions, delicacies, and so much more. Kira feels that "traveling is a gift that everyone should have the opportunity to experience." The Geographic Gypsy is here to help facilitate a seamless, customized, unforgettable vacation!
